Drorit Gur Arie curated an exhibition that glowed in its underground venue. The subjects of Mark\u2019s drawings and paintings, mostly portraits of his friends and family, remained anonymous, with none of the familiarity created by labels noting name and relationship.The associations between works by Yossi Mark and Gili Lavy \u2013 the only video artist in the exhibition, who is showing fascinating works \u2012 illuminates the failure of dichotomies such as veteran vs. emerging artist, or traditional vs. innovative.<br \/>\nIn <strong>Yossi Mark<\/strong>&#8216;s works, art-historical moments fuse with observations of life around him. The nuances, which expose the vulnerability\u2014a body relaxed during sleep, feet protruding underneath a blanket, surrender the memory of Christian art, exalting the mundane and infusing it with festivity. Mark bridges times, shedding light on the way in which, despite developments and changes, the cycle of life and the feebleness of the flesh have remained as they were.<br \/>\n<strong>Andrea Mantegna<\/strong>&#8216;s <em>Lamentation of Christ<\/em>, one of the iconic \u00a0works of Italian Renaissance, is echoed in the depiction of feet, and the sense of the pending end lurks in a seemingly innocent detail. Her work refers to religious rituals explores perspectives\u00a0of belief, faith and\u00a0 \u00a0death, challenging notions of fiction and reality.<br \/>\nThe imagery in Gili Lavy&#8217;s <em>La Me\u0300re Divine<\/em> (The Divine Mother) oscillates between the familiar and the foreign, between that which is decoded via prevalent iconographic forms and that which remains undeciphered.\u00a0 \u00a0She employs quintessential Christian formations and icons: the late-19th century French Catholic Ratisbonne Monastery in Jerusalem; the monastic hierarchy (Mother Superior and nuns), and the prayer order.
