Established several years ago, it is already showing visible impact on the contemporary art world. Next to a wall laden with drawings on which video films are screened, Raad focuses on Israeli ventures founded by the Fund, Moti Steinberg and Dan Galai, illuminating the \u201cGordian knot\u201d bonding Israeli hi-tech and the IDF. He raises questions about the way a cultural venture\/money \u201claunders\u201d the sources of the activity, from his viewpoint as a Lebanese likely to pay a high price for the link to Israelis, even though his contacts were with a series of international, non-Israeli curators. Raad does not hint at any stereotypes of Jews such as the link to money: he repeats his amazement at the intelligence of the venture and the people he researched and met. Moti Steinberg is described as one of the most beautiful and brilliant human beings he ever met (it is unclear whether such a meeting really took place\u2026). But this is another discussion, beyond the scope of my notes from NYC\u2026<br \/>\nRaad leads his audience between the sections of his installation constructed like stage flats, while speaking about building a new cultural structure in the Emirates, the issue of culture built on tons of cash from oil money. He discusses events involving the most talked-about island in the international culture scene, the broad reference in the Venice Biennale, ended about a month ago, from the aspect of the slavery-like conditions of the laborers building the Louvre, the Guggenheim, and the New Museum of Islam. Raad addresses another aspect: why is the younger generation of the rulers of the Emirates turning to culture? What is its purpose? He shows the audience a model of his gallery, the Sfeir-Semler Gallery (branch of an important Hamburg gallery) as he relates a horrifyingly amusing story of an exhibit he designed for the site, but when he arrived, he saw that all his works had been executed in a reduced scale, producing miniatures. He tells of forgotten Arab artists whose names were retrieved from the abyss of oblivion only to be forgotten again.<br \/>\nRaad uses a precise timeframe as a counterweight to the genuine and fictional facts he uses.
