We can read it as a discussion of the way art is engaged in form and paradigm as a means to address the world and, at times, as a retreat from it. She is defined as such in the code of law transmitted to the daughter by an invisible Mother Superior who is heard but not seen. Each frame emphasizes the religious rigor, the cloistered life with its limitations and restraint. What is depicted is a routine of prayer, study and common meals. As in Lavy\u2019s Autumn Clouds, her graduation work from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem (2013), the precise frames, conveying a tense stillness, are reminiscent of wonderful films such as Bergman\u2019s Fanny and Alexander (1982) or Theo Angelopoulos\u2019s 1986 film The Beekeeper. She is presented as being late to some activities, a bit like characters in fairy tales who are the ones destined later to be princesses or heroines.<br \/>\nThe site is the Ratisbonne, a late 19th century French Catholic monastery just down the road from the current exhibition site. The psychological interpretation of water is the subconscious, repressed sexual fears, and birth. In La Me\u0300re Divine, the protagonist is seen bathing in a pool, while covered with white fabric. In her daydream, she rows a boat in the middle of the sea in a shot which begins in black and white and turns into color. She flees the communal life in the enclosed compound for the infinite space of the sea and it is only the beauty of this sequence that prevents it from being utter kitsch.
