metaphorically cushioned space. A friendly home, the object of longing, embodies family memories and time past. And yet, the possibility looms that it may become an arena for violent relations. The current corpus evolved after the artist\u2019s mother passed away in 2019, leading her to observe and re-read \u201chome\u201d and its components. In a fascinating process, she took colorful floor rags with their \u201clow\u201d connotations and transformed them from \u201chigh-quality microfiber floor wipes\u201d to surfaces for pen drawings. Drawings of fragmented human and animal body parts appear on the floor rags \u2013 symbols of surrender and erasure of self which still possess the potential of redemption from a state of filth to cleanliness. The hybrids of live and artificial, of plant and animal, create a third, intermediate state. Similar to reading meanings into a physical home beyond its construction elements, Abo Alhega Hamza\u2019s intricate drawings signify our complicated relationships with objects and their symbolic meanings. Her works correspond with art movements from Dada to Surrealism to science fiction.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Three embroidered handkerchiefs from her parents\u2019 wedding remained folded in their original wrapping, preserving the event\u2019s festive glamor. Each bears a black ink drawing of a hand and window in differing proportions, their small embroidered flowers becoming part of the composition. Memory seems to attempt to fix the picture in the mind but it eludes the artist, melting away like the windows\u2019 contours. Abo Alhega Hamza preserves the hardened folds as a grid of memories, hopes, innocence, and promises.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Strong emotions, violence, pain and anxiety flow into the large black and blue ink portrait cut out and embroidered on to red fabric. A close look shows its composition from hands, architectural details, intertwined muscles, plants, bones, or perhaps flowing water.
