Corridors Rooms<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Monitoring movement through space and our need to feel a congruence between how we feel and how we look in a space lie at the core of Bruce Nauman\u2019s huge and breathtaking exhibition \u201cNeon Corridors Rooms\u201d at Pirelli HangarBicocca, Milan, one of the most superb exhibition spaces in Italy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/old.smadarsheffi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/unnamed.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[15808]\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-15820\" src=\"http:\/\/old.smadarsheffi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/unnamed-740x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"886\" 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nauman has been active and highly praised since the 1960s, but it seems that recognition of him as one of the most important international artists has been increasing recently over the past few years. The exhibition opened this week in Milano runs parallel to his \u201cContrapposto Sudies\u201d now at the Punta della Dogana in Venice through the end of November, following earlier versions at the Tate Modern in London (2020) and the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2021). While Nauman\u2019s neon works are very well known, as are his video pieces in which he participates, his corridor works are less familiar. In later works, Nauman engages in the viewer\u2019s reflection that sometimes splits or disappears, so that an image that seems obvious is not: its absence challenges the viewer\u2019s basic sense of existence. Issues of value, self-perception, and belief in our place as generators of reality transform Nauman\u2019s works into extremely contemporary, even if made more than half a century ago.
