Curator Ohad Zehavi presents works by three emerging contemporary Israeli artists as a single installation, participates as an artist with his narrative text, and attempts to explore the relationship of art and its interpretation. Like backdrop scenery which is parodic on a certain level, the Alfred Gallery becomes a semi-religious space containing ceremonial objects and relics of rituals.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10186\" style=\"width: 1546px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10186\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10186\" src=\"http:\/\/old.smadarsheffi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_6694-e1537435586577.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1536\" height=\"2048\" srcset=\"https:\/\/old.smadarsheffi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_6694-e1537435586577.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/old.smadarsheffi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_6694-e1537435586577-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/old.smadarsheffi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_6694-e1537435586577-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1536px) 100vw, 1536px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-10186\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Past Imperfect Continuous<br \/>2018, Lital Rubinstein<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Seen together, the works propose a handsome \u201ccabinet of wonders\u201d: on a pink shelf in the gallery window are small works by <strong>Lital Rubinstein<\/strong> including a kinetic sculpture from bottle brushes and blue glass beads against the Evil Eye. The brushes generate rise to a series of associations, from Tibetan prayer wheels to the Torah scroll decorated with pomegranate shaped ornaments.<br \/>\n<strong>Shira Barak<\/strong> is showing sculptures of pale wood, clay and plaster that look like torture instruments or tools for a cruel ritual. The miniature Japanese garden created by <strong>Keshet Ben Ami<\/strong> turns out to be devoid of Zen qualities, and seems more like a corporate desktop gift.<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZafYmthJ_1E\" width=\"560\" height=\"314\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nDisruption is the overall sensation from the exhibition, filtering through the pieces that refer to souvenirs, archaeological finds, gifts for a CEO, part of the overwhelming number of objects manufactured by contemporary culture to disguise the finality of individual and collective life.<br \/>\nZehavi\u2019s text confirms the surplus critique: behind the door which closes off part of the space, detaching it from the rest, there is a muffled sound work featuring the hesitant voices of the curator and the artists. Fragments of a discussion on art echo the popular arguments that discussions on art are obscure.<br \/>\n\u201cFacing the Shelf,\u201d the short story distributed in the gallery instead of an interpretive text is disappointing and extraneous. It is a pale reflection of early Surrealist texts such as by the Comte de Lautr\u00e9amont who described art as \u201cbeautiful as the chance meeting on a dissecting table of a sewing machine and an umbrella,&#8221;
